Template for student theses
The SLU library has made a Word template for student theses that you can use for your student papers or your independent degree project. It is not mandatory to use the thesis template, talk to your course leader or supervisor if you are unsure what applies to you.

The template for student theses is available in two versions: one in English and one in Swedish. Choose the template that corresponds to the language in which you write your paper or degree project.

Format the text correctly
As soon as you open a document in Word, you are effectively using a document controlled by a template. This means that there is formatting deciding how the text should look and by actively choosing different formats, you specify how a certain part of the text should look in the document. Here's how to find the different formats included in the template:
-
-
- Windows: Click on the Home-tab. Click on the dialogue box launcher in the lower-right corner of the Styles group. The Styles pane should now appear.
-
-
-
- Mac: Click on the Home tab. Click on the Styles pane button on the far right of the Home ribbon. The Styles pane should now appear.
-
When the Styles pane is open, the format being used will be highlighted in the list so you can easily see if the format being used is the correct one or if it needs to be changed. You change the format by highlighting text and choosing the format you want in the Styles pane.
Paste text into the document
Use the paste option Keep text only in order to avoid getting formats in the document that don't belong there.
Windows:
- Right-click where you want to paste the text. Under Paste options, choose Keep text only.
- Alternative: Paste the text into the text first, then click on the icon by the text and choose Keep text only.
