PhD Student Councils monitor the interests of PhD students
SLU has a PhD council for each faculty. In addition, SLUSS has a council that coordinates questions dealing with doctoral education between the students' unions, SLUSS and the doctoral student counsellor/ombudsman.

The PhD councils are committees that stem from the students' unions. As a part of a student union, the PhD councils monitor the interests of PhD students and the doctoral education at the university. They also provide opportunities to meet for all the faculties' PhD students, for example arranging breakfast meetings, lunch seminars, picnics and cultural or sports events.
Every PhD council has an active board, with meetings held regularly. The chair person and other board members are elected for one year.
