We welcome students to discuss tentative forest history master thesis projects with us! We do not offer pre-packaged thesis project however since we believe that a master thesis should be developed through a discussion between the student and the supervisor. Below you find some general topics/themes which hopefully could be inspiring.

* Forest management history including technical aspects, ecological aspects and international comparative perspectives.

* Identification and preservation of the cultural values in forests

* Sami land-use and their relation to northern ecosystems: reindeer herding, forest use, & plant-use.

* Old-growth forests and biodiversity - field studies in the northern protected forests

All these themes can be explored with different forest history methods; fieldwork, dendrochronology, interviews and analysis of historical records. There are usually good possibilities to acquire funding for projects in these fields.
