Welcome to session 3 on the role of animal health professionals in disease prevention and control

In this session you will learn about disease diagnosing, treatment guidance and how animal health professionals can support farmers with disease prevention. You will see a demonstration of a routine clinical examination as an important complement to the medical history and a tool for disease diagnosing and there will be examples of sample collection and laboratory analysis as means to guide treatment of diseased animals. Finally, animal health professionals in Uganda will show examples of disease detection in resource poor settings.

The session includes lectures, presentations and films with examples provided from Sweden and Uganda. For reflections on your learning, please go through the questions below, either as self-studies or in groups.

Groupwork instructions

For exercises in groups, divide the participant into groups of 4-5 people with a mix of stakeholders. Assign a note taker and a chair. These should be rotated and the roles equally distributed between men and women. The note taker may write down the discussion on flip chart paper or type in a word or presentation mode.
